Statistics show that success rates for infertile couples decrease the longer the couple has had difficulty achieving a pregnancy. Although problems with the male are common, female abnormalities are just as common. Multiple factors may affect women and lead to infertility - ovulatory problems, fallopian tube or uterine abnormalities, hormonal imbalances, ovarian cysts, or endometriosis. A proper and timely female evaluation is just as important as a proper male evaluation.
The female evaluation should be performed by a gynecologist familiar with all aspects of infertility who has knowledge of all treatments available. Reproductive endocrinologists are gynecologists who have undergone additional training and specialization in the area of infertility. These physicians are skilled in evaluating and treating all aspects of female infertility.
